NASM Personal Training Program – Olympia
On Tuesday, September 15, 2015, Bodymechanics School in Olympia WA signed an exclusive partner agreement with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) to promote and implement the NASM curriculum for the following programs:
- Certified Personal Trainer (CPT)
- Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES)
- Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES)
- Behavior Change Specialist (BCS)
- Fitness Nutrition Specialist (FNS)
What this means to students attending Bodymechanics School for their personal trainer needs – from new trainer to seasoned trainer looking to add more certifications – we are prepared to offer advanced training in our facility. The NASM Personal Training Program – Olympia is hands-on, taught by leaders in their fields who offer the most current and relevant research to their classes.
Our Level 1 certification course is 400 hours, and takes 4 months to complete. It is comprehensive in that students will learn
- Anatomy and Physiology,
- Kinesiology of Human Movement,
- Exercise Psychology,
- Exercise Program Design
- Professional Development
Our Level 2 Certification course is 400 hours, and takes 4 months to complete. In addition to advanced education in the topics above, students will be further introduced to the following topics:
- Corrective Exercise
- Performance Enhancement / Sport Specific
- Advanced nutrition
- Advanced postural and gait analysis
- Case studies
- Continued professional development
Having a hands-on approach to personal training, in classes taught by leaders, far surpasses an at home study program where students are not able to use equipment and who use more imagination to understand the program.
Our NASM Personal Training Program – Olympia Instructors:
DeWayne Unger, CPT, NASM Master Trainer
DeWayne is one of only 50 NASM Master Trainers in the US (out of approximately 32,000 CPTs in the country) and brings with him a ton of experience.
~ Nationally recognized fitness expert with multiple appearances in national publications.
~ Served on the 2014 Practice Analysis Task Force Committee for NASM
~ Passion for educating clients and training trainers
~ Analytical and critical decision making skills
~ Well trained in assessments, program design, exercise techniques and selection in a safe, progressive systematic approach
DeWayne brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our teaching staff and we are extremely excited for the opportunity to work with him – especially as we move towards national accreditation. DeWayne lives in Centralia and has worked with Thorbeckes for many years.
Ian Brooks, LMP, CPT, CNS, RKC
Ian Brooks, a highly skilled Massage Therapist and Personal Trainer, is very much an “anatomy geek.” He loves to teach about the body and brings anatomy alive to students. His approach can be intense at times, but in the end, you will learn more than you ever imagined about APP and Kinesiology of Human Movement.
Ian practices Neurosomatic Therapy (NST), a relatively new discipline in the massage therapy field which utilizes a detailed understanding of the structure and function of your body to create a comprehensive treatment plan. Ian has his office to treat clients in massage or personal training in the Bodymechanics building.
Will Brookreson, PN
Will is our nutritionist who studied through Precision Nutrition. Will has a practical approach to nutrition and doesn’t subscribe to one way of thinking. Rather, he believes in helping clients to figure out what works best for their body. Nutrition classes at Bodymechanics personal training school, Level 1 and Level 2 will be taught by Will, who will integrate the NASM Fitness Nutrition education along with his knowledge gained through Precision Nutrition to contribute to a well rounded personal trainer.
In addition to nutrition, Will is completing his certification as a personal trainer. He has been involved in athletics his whole life and is excited to teach and work with clients individually at Bodymechanics.
Shari Aldrich, LMP
Shari is the President and Clinical Director for the Bodymechanics Corporation. She is a graduate of the Bodymechanics School program in 2006 and became an instructor 4 months after graduation. In July, 2010, Shari became the school owner. She teaches advanced massage techniques, injury treatment modalities, as well as business, ethics and marketing classes for the massage and personal training programs.
Shari brings enthusiasm for business into the classroom. She receives mentoring from some of the best business minds in the world, and shares that passion with students. Monthly business mentoring classes are available to students of the program – and graduates are able to participate in the First Year Experience, a unique program to enhance launching graduate businesses.

Interested in more information about your certification program. Schedules and price specifically please. Thank you.
Hi Juan –
Thanks for your interest in our CPT program.
Our next start for our Level 1 certification is October 26. This will be a morning class, running Monday thru Friday from 8-12. The program runs for 4 months. The cost of the program is $4000. This includes access to the NASM on-line resources and exam after graduation. I do offer in-house financing for those who need payment plans. Our Level 1 certification includes the NASM CPT information, and is taught by a NASM Master Trainer with over 15 years of personal training – direct hands on. In DeWayne’s words: “400 hours of hands on training for this price. You can’t beat it. This program is designed around the NASM curriculum to become an exceptional personal trainer and prepares you for the CPT test. If you want to be the best, you have to learn from the best.”
I’d be happy to meet with you in person, and include some of our instructional staff, so you can learn more if that sounds good to you.
Please feel free to call us at (360) 350-0015 to schedule a time to talk more.
Wow! This is awesome – so, you actually walk away with certs or just learning?
Hi Brielle –
I think it’s pretty awesome too!
You’ll walk away with the education – and the ability to take the NASM exams. Part of your tuition pays for the certs 🙂
It’s a great opportunity. If you’d like to jump on this, lets talk. Our next class starts October 26.
Are you doing hands on training at the moment?
Hi Kate – We have not resumed our CPT program at this time due to COVID policies. Shari
