Class Description:
Thai massage is an ancient modality with its roots in Northern India, Buddhism and Ayurveda. It is referred to as yoga for the royalty, which was created to prepare the body for meditation. The students will learn a meditative flow that combines assisted stretching, acupressure, and compression to improve flexibility and balance the body’s energy by dissolving blockages and alleviating stress. Thai Massage can support the students into their current practice, is adaptable to the table, and employs body mechanics that will support the longevity and endurance of their practice.
Instructor Bio:
Gracielx Lopez been studying Thai Massage for over 10 years, and teaching since 2019. Gracielx is personally moved by the ancient roots of Thai
massage as it was integrated into community, prayer and supporting monks to be able to meditate for long hours. They also love how the practice invites practitioners to be comfortable in their own bodies, as a foundation in the practice. Gracielx is grateful to be able to share the teachings of this lineage that they have been gifted. As a non-Thai practitioner it is important to Gracielx to mention that they have studied within the lineage of Ashokananda, a German teacher who brought Thai Massage to the West, and founded the sunshine network. So while Gracielx endeavors to share the historical background, and Thai traditional teachings, their understanding is inherently a Western understanding of the teachings. Gracielx believes that this lens has powerful medicine, and recognizes it is different from traditional forms of Thai Massage.
