$85Ethics: A Massage Therapist’s Guide to Understanding Illegitimate Massage and Human Trafficking
What are the real concerns with illicit massage and human trafficking in our communities? Is that new foot massage business down the street engaged in human trafficking like some people claim? How do I know? Why have I suddenly been receiving calls from sketchy-sounding clients? And, why are many states now discussing having my photo on my massage license? What is going on?
As it turns out, while we have conscientiously gone about our work as licensed massage therapists, other claiming to offer massage have generated complaints related to unlicensed practice or engaged in sexually-inappropriate behavior, all under our good name. This situation creates confused public perception as to who we are and what we do while also creating concerns around therapist safety. In fact, the FSMTB Human Trafficking Task Force Report listed therapist safety as the main concern around illicit massage and human trafficking in illicit massage businesses!
This five-hour NCBTMB-approved continuing education ethics course will help you understand the threats to our profession, protect yourself, and recognize the power we have to make positive changes to turn around this situation. This class will support you in protecting our profession and educating our clients in an environment that can be confusing and even dangerous at times. A portion of the class will specifically address personal safety strategies for massage therapists, likely making you safer in your work.
