700 Hour Massage Therapy Program

Bodymechanics School of Myotherapy & Massage has added more hours to our already exceptional How to choose a massage schoolmassage program!  We’re pretty excited about the new 700 hour massage therapy program because it will continue to enable our graduates to excel as Licensed Massage Therapists.

Over the years, our program has graduated hundreds of exceptional massage therapists who are in high demand in their communities.  We’ve done this by building a foundation on the 4 Pillars of Success:

  • Technique
  • Communication
  • Marketing
  • Critical Thinking Skills

Our focus on these 4 foundations lead our students to understand advanced massage theory and they’ve gone on to be leaders of massage wherever they land – from Washington, to California, to Texas, to Nevada, to Arizona, to Virginia and much more.

Our previous programs (600 hours Tumwater and 650 hours in Vancouver) are excellent.  Others in our profession believe that more hours are necessary….

A few years ago, I attended a conference with several massage therapist leaders in Washington State who were talking about the need for a base education of 625 hours that stemmed from the Entry Level Analysis Project (ELAP) as most states around the country  require 500 hours / 6 months for a base massage license.

Their reasoning was that many massage schools are failing to produce quality massage therapists, and on top of that, their graduates are ill-prepared to pass the MBLEx (licensing exam).

Our program was producing exceptional massage therapists who were VERY equipped to pass the MBLEx at our 600 or 650 hours.

So, you might be wondering why we raised the program to 700 hours…

Well, there are a couple of reasons that led us to increasing to a 700 hour massage therapy program.

First, a massage organization in Washington sent out a report on massage school programs in Washington and we were one of a handful of schools that had a program less that 700 hours.  Hmmm…  interesting.

Yet, we still produce quality therapists who are able to pass the MBLEx in just 600 h0urs.

As I thought of that meeting a few years ago, I realized that the quality of the program is MORE important than the number of hours a person goes to a massage therapy program.   I still believe that today.  A person could go to a 1000 hour program, but if it’s full of fluff that doesn’t prepare them to pass the MBLEx, the person in that longer massage therapy program is wasting their time and money.

I realized however that we had an opportunity to get our program hours in alignment with other massage school programs and ADD more content that would further elevate our program and I’m excited with what our Leadership Team came up with as we negotiated wants and needs of our program.

We began by asking our instructors for their wish list –

  • Did they have enough classes per subject, and if not, how many more did they need?
  • Is there a specialty class they wanted to teach?

From there, we went to our goals as a school –

  • Which classes could we add that would bring value to the success rate of our students?
  • Are there specialty classes we want?
  • Are we meeting the needs for business classes?

From there, our Leadership Team built a masterpiece of a massage program that will accelerate understanding of advanced massage theory that is scientific-based and solid in theory and practice.

Practical Application Classes

One of the new class additions we are most proud of is our Practical Application classes.  In this new segment, we’ve combined advanced concepts that in the past were taught one class at a time (such as Trigger Points, Myofascial Release and Hydrotherapy) and now will be also taught in a combined application class.

We’ve added new, specific clinics for classes where we’ll invite the public to have our students work on them for chronic conditions.

We’ve added advanced business projects and revamped how we teach business.

We’ve added new classes so students understand the psychology of the body.

We’ve increased concepts around building a mobile business.

We’ve added ethics classes.

We’ve added culmination projects just prior to graduation

In short, we’ve just solidified our position as an advanced theory massage therapy program and we couldn’t be more excited.
